New Jersey’s joint legislative Bridgegate committee, co-chaired by Assembly Deputy Speaker John S. Wisniewski, crafted its investigation based on relatively novel and infrequently tested laws and tools.
The New Jersey State Bar Association’s mid-year convention in Amsterdam will offer a seminar, “Bridge Over Troubled Water: The Law Behind the Legislature’s Bridgegate Investigation,” on how the committee mapped its course.
Wisniewski, a Democrat representing the 19th legislative district and former co-chair of the Legislative Select Committee on Investigations, will preside over the Oct. 26 seminar at the State Bar’s invitation.
The seminar will examine the statutes authorizing legislative use of subpoena power, the documentary and oral testimony before the legislative committee, the use of executive privilege and the deletion of text messages and what that means going forward.
The program offers continuing legal education credit.
